Is the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp Worth the Investment?
As the owner of Indy Concealment, I spend a lot of time building Kydex holsters, testing firearms, and talking with customers about what they carry every day. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to shoot a wide variety of handguns—from compact everyday carry pistols to full-size competition-inspired firearms. Those experiences have given me a solid benchmark for evaluating what separates a good pistol from a truly exceptional one.
Every once in a while, a firearm comes along that genuinely exceeds expectations.
The Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp is one of those pistols.
After putting approximately 1,200 rounds through my Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp, I can confidently say this isn't just another manufacturer trying to capitalize on the growing popularity of the 2011-style platform. Kimber has built a pistol that is accurate, reliable, incredibly enjoyable to shoot, and surprisingly controllable.
Is it perfect?
No.
But in my opinion, it comes remarkably close.
First Impressions
The first time I picked up the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp, the quality was immediately noticeable.
The fit between the slide and frame felt tight without being overly stiff. The grip texture struck a nice balance between providing plenty of control while remaining comfortable in the hand. Everything about the pistol felt well thought out.
Then there was the trigger.
It was exactly what I'd expect from a premium single-action pistol—clean, crisp, and predictable.
Of course, handling a pistol at the gun counter only tells part of the story.
The real test begins once the first round goes downrange.
1,200 Rounds Later
Over the course of approximately 1,200 rounds, I primarily shot 124-grain ammunition through the Kimber.
The most impressive part?
Not a single malfunction.
No failures to feed.
No failures to eject.
No failures to return to battery.
That's exactly what I hope for from any firearm, especially one positioned in the premium handgun market.
Every defensive firearm should be thoroughly tested before it's trusted for personal protection, but based on my experience, reliability has been outstanding.
My Experience Compared to Other Premium 2011-Style Pistols
One reason the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp impressed me so much is because it wasn't my first experience with premium 2011-style pistols.
Over the years, I've owned several pistols from Nighthawk Custom, including the Double Agent, the TRS Commander, and the T4. They're beautifully built firearms with exceptional craftsmanship, and they also carry a price tag that's roughly double what the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp typically sells for.
Because of that, I naturally had high expectations for the Kimber.
What surprised me most wasn't that it was good.
It was how good it was.
If someone had handed me this pistol without telling me the price, I honestly would have guessed it cost considerably more.
My personal experience with the Kimber was actually smoother than one of my Nighthawk pistols. My Double Agent experienced several failures to feed during its early range sessions, along with a few magazine-related issues that needed to be worked out before everything ran as expected.
By comparison, my Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp ran flawlessly right out of the box. Through approximately 1,200 rounds, it has yet to experience a single malfunction.
That doesn't mean every Kimber will outperform every Nighthawk, nor does it mean every Nighthawk owner will have the same experience I did. These are simply my experiences with pistols I've personally owned and shot.
What it does demonstrate is that price alone doesn't always predict how a firearm will perform for an individual shooter.
The Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp delivered exceptional reliability, outstanding shootability, and a level of refinement that honestly surprised me considering its price point.
The Compensator Isn't Just Marketing
If I had to choose one feature that impressed me the most, it would be the integrated compensator.
There's often a lot of marketing surrounding compensated pistols, and it's easy to wonder whether they actually make a noticeable difference.
In this case...
Absolutely.
The compensator noticeably reduces muzzle rise, allowing the sights to settle back on target much faster between shots. During controlled pairs and rapid strings of fire, I found myself staying on target with noticeably less effort than many comparable pistols.
Does it eliminate recoil?
Of course not.
Nothing does.
What it does is transform the recoil impulse into something much flatter and easier to control.
After spending considerable time behind this pistol, I can confidently say the compensator isn't there simply for appearance—it genuinely improves the shooting experience.
Accuracy
Simply put...
This pistol is incredibly easy to shoot well.
The excellent trigger, combined with the flatter recoil impulse, creates a handgun that rewards both slow, deliberate shooting and faster strings of fire.
Whether I was shooting tight groups or increasing the pace, the Kimber consistently performed beyond my expectations.
It's one of those rare pistols that makes you want to stay at the range longer simply because it's so enjoyable to shoot.
Would I Carry It Every Day?
This is probably the question I get asked the most.
Would I trust it?
Absolutely.
Would I personally carry it every day?
Probably not.
That isn't because there's anything wrong with the pistol.
It's simply because of my personal preferences.
For everyday concealed carry, I naturally gravitate toward smaller pistols that are lighter, easier to conceal, and more comfortable throughout an entire day. One of my personal favorites is the Kimber CDS9, which better matches the way I carry.
The Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp is certainly capable of serving as an everyday carry pistol. It offers excellent capacity, exceptional shootability, and outstanding reliability.
For me, though, it's simply a little larger than what I prefer to carry on a daily basis.
That's one of the reasons choosing a carry gun is such a personal decision.
The "best" handgun isn't necessarily the most expensive or the highest capacity.
It's the one you'll actually carry every day.
The One Disappointment
No firearm review would be complete without mentioning the negatives.
My particular Kimber arrived with visible factory grinding marks on the inside portion of the thumb safety. The issue was purely cosmetic and had no effect on the function of the pistol, but on a premium-priced handgun, it wasn't something I expected to see.
Fortunately, Kimber handled the situation exactly the way I hoped they would.
After contacting customer service, they promptly shipped me a replacement safety at no charge.
Would I have preferred the original part to have been perfect?
Absolutely.
But I also believe it's important to acknowledge manufacturers that stand behind their products, and Kimber did exactly that.
What Surprised Me Most
Going into this review, I expected the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp to be a good pistol.
I didn't expect it to become one of my favorite range guns.
The biggest surprise wasn't the trigger.
It wasn't the capacity.
It wasn't even the flawless reliability.
It was simply how easy this pistol is to shoot accurately.
Everything works together—the ergonomics, the trigger, the compensator, and the balance—to create a firearm that inspires confidence every time you pick it up.
Some pistols take time before they start to feel natural.
The Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp felt that way almost immediately.

Would I recommend it?
Without hesitation.
Would it replace my everyday carry pistol?
No—and that's simply because I personally prefer smaller, easier-to-conceal handguns like the Kimber CDS9.
For me, that's what makes the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp so compelling. It doesn't try to be the most expensive 2011-style pistol on the market—it simply delivers premium performance at a price point that puts it within reach of far more shooters.
If I were shopping for a premium 2011-style pistol today, knowing what I know after 1,200 rounds, the Kimber 2K11 Pro Comp would be at the very top of my shortlist.
That's about as strong of a recommendation as I can give.
